Classic Film/1980's Wilderness Film

QuestionHello Mel,
Just happened on to you from a Google search. This is a question from an aquaintace (told him I would try to find out):"I'm trying to figure out the name of a movie I saw back in maybe the 80s. A girl marries this guy and he has these grandeur dreams of being a mountain man, trapper, living off the land, etc.. So, contrary to what she wants, they move to Alaska, I think is where it was.
After they've been there awhile and it's winter, he goes out trapping or hunting and never returns. She is left to fend for herself in the wilderness. There is a scene where when she realizes he's not coming back, she screams and curses him as she looks across the lake."
Any thoughts or leads would be most appreciated. Thank you.
Regards,
Jonathan
AnswerHello Jonathan,
That sounds like the 1981 film "Silence of the North" starring Ellen Burstyn. It was based on the autobiography of Olive Fredrickson, and tells of her life as a girl, then a trappers wife, and later widow with three small children surviving under rugged pioneer conditions in northern Alberta, Canada from the early 1900's, through to the depression".
