About 25 years ago I saw part of a movie that I think was made in the 30's.  It was a poor girl/rich guy story.  They married, had a child, then his family ruined the marriage and kept the child.  The mother went on to live a tough life.  She worked at a cleaning woman at a college or prep school where the boy ended up.  She "watched" him and got to know him.  That's all I saw.  I didn't look for the title of the movie so I never found out what it was!  Do yo know?

Sorry for the delay, but have been trying to locate the title of the film for you.  All I've been ably to come up with , about a self-sacrificing mother is "Madame X',...but it's too melodramatic, and doesn't quite follow your story-line.

Perhaps one of the other experts may be able to help you.
