The movie I am looking for I believe was made in the forties.  The movie begins with a married woman recalling to someone how she met and got her high school teacher or college professor to marry her.  The movie then goes back in time and tells the story.  It was a nice, sweet film.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about one of my favorite childhood films, the charming 20th Century Fox 1946 film, "Margie".   It starred Jeanne Crain. Glenn Langan, Lynn Bari,...and I think,  a very young Alan Young ( TV's "Mr Ed., the Talking Horse").

It was in color,...and tho' not a musical, had lots of great old nostalgic songs. I don't believe it was ever released on either VHS or DVD,  altho' I know it's been on TV.  
(  I even think I may have made a copy of it for TV many years ago,..hidden away somewhere.  Thanks for reminding me of the film.  I'd like to see it again, myself.)
