Question
I saw an old black and white christmas movie several years ago and I've been looking for it ever since. There is this couple and they can't have a baby so they want to adopt a little boy and the adoption agency calls and says they have a baby for them, but it is a girl not a boy as the husband so badly wants, but he gives in and say ok we can adopt the girl. As the baby girl grows the man grows to love her very much. Then she is oh about 10-11 years old and she gets sick but still wants to go and be in the school Christmas play. I think the little girl is an angel in the school Christmas play. When they take the girl home she gets even sicker and finally the little girl dies. The man is just beside himself, he can't sleep he can't eat, he takes it really bad. Then the orphanage calls again and they say they have a baby boy for the couple and they get their baby boy after all and the man is happy again. Do you know what move this might be. Thank you ever so kindly if you can give me any help and Merry Christmas!!!

Answer
Hi Dotty,

I think I MAY have the title of the film you're looking for.  The plot seems to be what I recalled seeing many years ago.

It was a wonderful old  "Tear-jerker" film called "Penny Serenade" starring Irene Dunne and Cary Grant.'

You can check out the story at....   http://www.sover.net/~ozus/pennyserenade.htm

And if this is the film you want,..it's available at    www.amazon.com.
