Question
Hi Jim! I'm currently working on a project about the M-G-M musical and having a little problem with the "Great Ziegfeld": I'd like to identify the guy who sings the opening bars of the "You" number sitting next to Virginia Bruce. I already consulted all the literature I have at hand - nothing. The Class Act database says it's Dennis Morgan but that's not right. By the way, you'll find a video of the number at youtube. I hope you can help me! Thanks for reading. Dirk

Answer
Hi Dirk,

Just read your interesting question re the "YOU" singer.  Checked the number, and can't say I recognize the fellow at all.  He certainly ISN'T Dennis Morgan, who is easily recognizable in
the "Pretty Girl' number.
I checked all my resources, and although I did find an extensive cast list of dozens of bit players, and even singers (in various musical numbers),...I couldn't find out who did that one bit.
Perhaps he sang in one of the other numbers too, and we may be able to recognize him That way.  (I'll check out the film, ...but you've probably done that already.)   I doubt that he's listed on any "soundtrack"  CD recording.  So, I'm afraid he may be lost to the ages. (His "less
than 15 minutes of fame.)
I'm interested in your project; are you working on a book?
Sorry I couldn't be of help.
