Question
Jim, I don't remember much about this film. It should have been in the 50's. It was about a volcano eruption on an island and the tribe believed that the volcano would only stop if a young virgin was sacrificed. And a girl jumped into the volcano. Do you have any idea, what I am talking about. I have hunted for years but can't find the name. That's all I can remember about the movie, the girl jumping in the volcano to stop it. I sometimes wonder if maybe it was a dream! lol Would appreciate if you can help. Thanks, Darlene

Answer
Hi Darlene,

You weren't dreaming.  The story you describe WAS a film,...in fact,...two films.  The first was made in the 1930's, "Bird of Paradise" starring the beautiful Dolores del Rio and the handsome Joel McCrea,....in black&white.  It's available on DVD thru either Barnes and Noble or Amazon.

However, the film you probably saw,  (and which may be shown on the Fox TV Channel),  is
"Bird of paradise, from 1951....in color,... with Debra Paget. Louis Jourdan and Jeff Chandler.  So far it hasn't been released on VHS or DVD.  But you may be able to find a 2nd-hand copy of it on eBay.  (Or , on GOOGLE, type in "Bird of Paradise - Jell Chandler")

But, check out , and type in (on GOOGLE),......: " bird of paradise video',  and you'll find a
download of the 1932 film.
