Classic Film/Frank Sinatra

Question
Sir....While watching Godfather (original one) on DVD, one of the senior members in room commented that Don's admiration to "Johny Fontane" shows a special reference. We were curious, so he told us that the character is depicted on the real life actor namely "Frank Sinatra". Of course, we are unable to see the great actor's major performances except those available with DVD, but I am sure he was a darling to American people in his period. What I wish to know whether the rumor is true that Frank was "promoted" in Hollywood in Godfather style or whether it was a baseless assumption?
Thanks
Raj (from India)

Answer
Hello again Raj,

I really don't know the answer to that one, but I think it's fair to assume that he did know many of the gangsters of his day.

Here are a few sites that you should find interesting.......
