Question
WHAT DOES SIDNEY POITIER RUN TO GIVE ELIZABETH HARTMAN IN LAST SCENE OF MOVIE PATCH OF BLUE AND WHAT DOE SIT MEAN WHAT DOES TITLE OF THIS MOVIE MEAN

Answer
Hi Kathi,

I have the answers to your questions about "A Patch of Blue" !

Early in the film, Eliz. notices a music box that Sydney has on his bureau in his apt.
It plays a charming French song which Sidney sings.  He later gives the music box to her,...
but when she leaves at the end of the film , she forgets it, ....and Sydney runs to give it to her;...but  too late !!!

I believe " a patch of blue" refers to  finding a patch of blue sky peeking through a grey and gloomy sky.  When someone has had a sad and dreary life, and then finds a small bit of happiness,....it's finding " a patch of blue".  ( It's much like: "looking for a silver lining", or
seeing a rainbow.)

Sincerely,
