Classic Film/SUSAN HAYWARD in Madame X
Expert: Jim Kason - 1/4/2009
QuestionHello, I saw your answer concerning Madame X, so I hope you have seen Madame X starring SUSAN HAYWARD. I don't know if it was released to the theater, but I saw it on TV many times until the early 1980's. It is the same story as the Lana Turner remake, but it is black & white, and made before the Lana Turner remake. I thought it was an RKO picture, but not sure. Also, I wondered if the copyright was held in Mexico, as a good part of the movie was filmed there. I think the copyright for the Turner remake is held in England.? I have been told many times that S. Hayward did not do a remake, but I watched a with friends several times. I would just like to find a "viewable" copy of the movie. I'm not a collector; this is just my favorite movie and I would love to see it again. Thank you for your help!
AnswerHi Jan,
Thanks for your comment and question. I'm sorry to say that I can't help you with the film you've described,...because I feel that it doesn't exist,..at least not with the title, "Madame X".
I'd have to agree with others that you may be thinking of Susan Hayward in another similar plotted film, and somehow getting it confused with "M.X". She DID make a similar movie
called "Back Street".
To be certain, last night I called a friend, Gene Arceiri,..who wrote a biography of Susan Hayward entitled "Red" some years ago. He told me that she never made a film (or remake) of "Madame X".
I'm afraid that finding the film you saw on TV is futile,..but of course nothing is impossible.
Perhaps one of the other Experts may be able to help you.
Sincerely,
Jim Kason
