old film wife accidently kills abusive hubby with frozen
leg of lamb.  she tosses it into the oven and later offers
it to the cops investigating the accident. does this ring
a bell? Help I'm losing sleep over this.

Yes, I know that story, but I'm pretty sure that what you've described was not a movie, ...but a very favorite episode of the TV series, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents".

It was called "Lamb To The Slaughter" and starred  Barbara Bel Geddes (who also co-starred
with Jimmy Stewart and Kinm Novack in "Vertigo".)
