Classic Film/B&W escapee movie, maybe about WW2

QuestionThis one is tough. Staying up late one night many years ago, I saw a movie about seven (I think seven, maybe more)prisoners that escape. Their captors vow to track each one down no matter how long it takes. I dont recall the premise, but it was that you rooted for the prisoners and were sympothetic to them. So maybe it was concentration camp prisoners that escaped, with German officers tracking them down, one by one. The whole movie took each prisoner's journey and got the viewer involved in their story. Then they would be tracked down and killed. It was sad, but intriguing the same. I dont remember, but maybe the last guy got away. Would love to know the name of this film to see it again. Thanks for your efforts.
AnswerHi Gina,
I've been trying to track down your film for you, so sorry about the delay in answering.
I'm pretty sure you're describing a wonderful WW2 film from MGM, 1944's "The Seventh Cross". And , yes,...it was about 7 prisoners being pursued by Nazis. It starred Spencer Tracy, with Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, and Agnes Moorehead, among others.
You can find more info on it at :

And for a really extensive synopsis, go to the TCM Movie Database.
It's available on VHS at Amazon.com
