Question
Looking for an older B & White movie about a poor Chinese(?) farmer that bit by bit buys land around him which makes him extremely wealthy. The wealthier he becomes the more distanced he becomes from his family life and eventually his family life is almost destroyed. In the end he ends up back where he started, a poor farmer but they are all happy again. I think this movie was spoken in foreing language and sub-titled for English but not certain.

Answer
Hi Lori,

Thanks for your question.  After  a little bit of memory searching, I finally recalled the film I
think you're referring to.  It's possibly the Academy Award winning 1937 film from MGM,
"The Good Earth".  Although set in China, and about a Chinese family,...it used mainly
American and Caucasian actors, starring the then popular (Academy Award winning actors)  Paul Muni and Luise Rainer.  It was based on a best-selling novel of the time by Pearl S. Buck.

For a brief summery of the plot, go to ;  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Good_Earth_(film)

It's available at Amazon.com.

Hope this was what you were looking for.

Sincerely,
Jim Kason
