Question
Hello there. have been haunted by a movie i saw part of as a child mid to late 70's. An invading force enter a town killing those who don't escape. Most citizens board a train but, overloaded, it cant get up the hill and the last few carriages are disconnected to roll back into town. those who don't jump to their deaths or commit suicide are set upon by the invaders (maybe nazis)and horribly killed. Then I was sent to bed. Not sure if the film was color, definitely made before, say 1979. Would love to discover the fate of these citizens after 30 years. Thanks  Brett

Answer
Hello Brett,

There was a scene like that in the 1968 film "The Mercenaries" (aka "Dark Of THe Sun"). It starred Rod Taylor and Jim Brown as a couple of mercenaries in the Congo, charged with the job of liberating a trainload of Europeans (and $25 million's worth of diamonds) before the rival tribesmen slaughter them.

It was a tough, well acted film, with a very strong storyline for its day. Probably the best film Rod Taylor ever starred in.

Glad to be of help. Cheers......Mel.
