Classic Film - Old B&W horror-sci-fi film

Question
I can't remember the film's name, I believe it was made in the 40's or 50's.  Plot was about a group of explorers that find a civilization of people living underground.  (Not the Flash Gordon series about the Clay People) Continuing the plot, people in this world can not be exposed to the sun, if they do, they burn up.  And that is how the king purnishes anyone, they are taken into this room and the roof opens to expose the sun and they burn up.  One of the explorers falls in love with a woman in the nation that's a little different, she's not as pale and he wants to take her up with him.  Turns out, she's the only one that can take the sun.   It is not the 1937 movies, Lost Horizon.  Any idea the name and year of the one I'm asking about?

Answer
Hi M.J.,

I believe you're thinking of a 1956 Universal Studios film called "The Mole People" which
" starred " John Agar, in his declining "movie star" years;  ( He had more fame as Shirley
Temple's Ex. )

For the complete plot and info, go to:

The film is available at Amazon.com  on a DVD with 4 other Universal Sci-fi films for about
$25.00,  And another site has it on a double-bill DVD for $10,....tho' I haven't any info on
who or where they are. :
