There is a movie classic about a teacher who teaches for years and thinks her students do not like her but when she is dying some of them come back to see her and tell her how much she influenced them in their lives. Set I believe in the 1950s.

I believe that the film you're looking for is RKO's 1951 "The Blue Veil" starring  Jane Wyman, Joan Blondell, Richard Carlson and Charles Laughton.

It's a film many people love and remember, but somehow has never been released on VHS or DVD.  Sometimes a privately taped copy can be found on Ebay.
