Classic Film/Title of old movie from 30's or 40's?

QuestionAbout 30 years ago I saw an old black and white movie on late night television which I believe would have been from the 30's or 40's that I would like to get the title of and ultimately purchase for my collection. I only saw a portion of it but it seemed to be centered around a person who was threatening to kill themselves by jumping out of a window in a downtown area of a major city and the various people who come by to try and talk him out of it.....each person tells a story that reveals a little more of the puzzle. Was really interesting but I couldn't stay and watch it and never saw it again. Would love to watch it if I could just find the title. Could not tell you who the actors were. Do you have any ideas on the title and availability? Thank you for your help.
AnswerHello Steve,
That sounds very like the 1947 film "The Long Night". It starred Henry Fonda, Barbara Bel Geddes, Vincent Price and Ann Dvorak. It was a re-make of a 1939 French film "Le Jour se Leve".
STORY OUTLINE: Police surround the apartment of apparent murderer Joe Adams, who refuses to surrender although escape appears impossible. During the siege, as a crowd gathers outside, Joe reflects on the circumstances that led him to this situation.
