QuestionI have been trying to find the name of this movie for approx. 35 years. After the movie was over I cried for an extra 10-15 minutes. I was 12 or 13 years old. I hope you can help me!
There was this woman who married a man before he went to war. He died. She was all alone, but found out she was pregnant. She was happy again. Then the baby dies. She has no working experience but has to find a job to support herself. She goes to one of those job offices where they go through their rolodex and pulls out a job that matches her qualifications. Since she has never worked the gentleman can only find one job for her. It's being an nanny for an infant. Since she just lost her baby, she really didn't want this job but has to take it due to her youth and inexperience.
The job works out great for a couple of years- until they no longer need her services. She goes back to the man who found her last job. Again he can only find another nanny job for her. She takes it and is hired again until she is no longer needed. These nanny jobs go back and forth for years. She takes care and loves each and every one of these children.
She has now become a senior citizen. When she goes to the job agency, the agency tells her she is too old to take care of children. She is now old and alone. As she walks out of the agency office and into the street, she is almost hit by a car. A beat cop sees her and asks if she is all right. She says yes but the policeman notices her vision is not good. He suggests she see an eye doctor.
When she goes to see the eye doctor he starts to remember who she is. She took care of him when he was a toddler. She also remembers him. After he prescribes glasses for her the doctor asks what she is doing now. She explains her job situation. Before she leaves, the doctor asks if she can come to his home for dinner to meet his wife and two little girls. She accepts. When she leaves the room for a moment, the doctor grabs her purse and takes something from it.
When she comes to dinner the doctor introduces her to his wife. He then says he has a surprise for her. When she is seated in his living room he explains that he took the photo book she was carrying in her purse. In that photo book are the names and pictures of all the children she cared for all these years. When another door opens, all these men and women come out and introduce themselves. They are all the children she has cared for all these years. They tell her they have never forgotten her.
The eye doctor then brings his two little girls out to meet her. The doctor and his wife explain to her they are in need of someone to care for the girls. He invites her to live with them.
I still cry when I think about this movie. So, can you please tell me the name of the movie so I can purchase it and cry all over again?
AnswerHi Lucy,
Yes, I'm pretty sure you're referring to one of the greatest "tearjerkers" of all time, the 1951
RKO Pictures film, "The Blue Veil" starring Jane Wyman and an all star cast.
If you go to:
http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=69241
and click on: "[+]Read full synopsis"...in the center of the page, you can read the full story-line.
Over the years, many have tried to purchase this film, but unfortunately, RKO has never released it on DVD. However there Have been copies ( from TV, etc) that have been offered from private sellers, such as:
http://urbanclassicmovies.com/blueveil.html
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
