Question
I am looking for an old cinderella movie. She has short hair, and a funny accent. She meets the woman who is like her fairy godmother in a forrest but the women does not do magic. The fairy godmother borrows things and later returns them. That is how she gets a dress for her for the ball. and also she meets the prince in the woods but he tells her that he is the son of a cook in the castle. and there is a tiny bit of ballet in this movie. What is the title?

Answer
Hi Brittany,

Thanks for your question.  I most certainly DO know the "cinderella" film you're looking for!  It's
always been one of my favorite fantasy musicals, since I first saw it as a kid.  It's MGM's 1955
film "The Glass Slipper", and stars the charming actress , Leslie Caron (who had just made several
other great musicals, Academy Award winner,"American in Paris" and "Lili". (She later made her 2nd
Academy Award musical,"Gigi". ( Gene Kelly had discovered her in Paris when she was 18,...so she
always had that delightful French accent.)

The prince was played by Michael Wilding ( who was Elizabeth Taylor's 2nd husband),and the Godmother was played by Estelle Winwood.
If you go to:  http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/177/The-Glass-Slipper/full-synopsis.html
(which is the TCM Movies Site), and go to the left side under "Main Links", and click on
"Full Synopsis" (3rd down), you can read the full story.
Also,as you can see on the right side of the window, it's available from TCM for $24.99:....and you
can go to www.Amazon.com and fid a used VHS copy for $18.10 and up.

Sincerely,
Jim K.
