Question
Looking for the name of a movie I saw on TCM (at the time it was the first showing I believe) a couple years ago. It is a comedy, and all I can tell you is a mid western(US) guy living with his mom has dreams of makig it big in hollywood. He gets his mom to mail a letter to one of the studios but instead of his photo a stock photo of a really good looking guy mistakenly gets put in the envelope. Of course when the studio in hollwood gets the envelope it they want him right away. He goes to hollywood and the insanity begins as the studio reallizes it is not the same guy that is in the photo, and the guy has bad luck throughout his time in hollywood but he meets a girl of course. I would say a 30's early 40's movie.

Answer
Hello Sean,

That sounds like Harold Lloyd's 1932 comedy "Movie Crazy".

PLOT OUTLINE: Harold Hall, an accident prone young man with little or no acting ability, desperately wants to be in pictures. After a mix-up with his application photograph, he gets an offer to have a screen-test, and goes off to Hollywood. At the studio, he does everything wrong and causes all sorts of trouble. But he catches the fancy of a beautiful actress, and eventually the studio owner recognizes him as a comic genius.
