Classic Film/The Story of San Michele

Question
Hello Jason, sorry, have to ask just on the off chance; in the 1960's I saw this film adapted from the book of the same name by Axel Munthe. It was foreign, possibly German but had been dubbed in English once released in America. I think it was originally made in 1962. I have searched for a copy on the net extensively plus ebay without success. I know it is available on film. Are you able to assist? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Emin,

Yes, the film was German, released in 1962 by Criterion Productions, as "Der Arzt Von San Michele" ,... and dubbed into English.
I believe It's only available (in German) on a PAL VHS from the German Amazon site,..tho' not on the US site.

An interesting bit of info was in the H'wood Correspondant, Erskine Johnson's syndicated newspaper
column of Feb. 13, 1952 :

A German film version of "The Story of San Michele", best seller of 30 years ago by Alex Munthe,
will be released by Warner Brothers."

Perhaps one of the other "experts" may be able to help you further.

Sincerely,

Jim Kason ( not.."Jason")
