Question
Hi Mel, in the 1960's I saw this film adapted from the book of the same name by Axel Munthe. It was foreign, possibly German but had been dubbed in English once released in America. I think it was originally made in 1962. I have searched for a copy on the net extensively plus ebay without success. I know it is available on film. Are you able to assist? Thank you.

Answer

Hello Emin,

Yes, you're absolutely correct in all your details. It was made in 1962 under the German title of "Axel Munthe - Der Arzt von San Michele", translated to "The Story Of San Michele" for English speaking countries.

The German language version is still available from Amazon.de on VHS, but, much like your own searches, I have been unable to locate, and don't think exists at the present time, either an English dubbed or subtitled version, either VHS or DVD.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Cheers.........Mel.

P.S. Now I'll have a look for your Charles Laughton film.
