Question I am trying to remember the name of a film I saw about 40 years ago. Leading man with mustache criminal/con man or detective/reporter takes in young girl, comedy, heart warming ending, not little miss marker or remake, circa 40's, possibly Barrymore or rough description look alike.

As to your question, this is a very, very broad description, and fits the majority of the films that were released during the 1940s era.
