Strange strange question, but do you know which version came first the american or the russian (the russians a far better film, much less dodgy acting)and do you know what the original theatrical cut time was?

Thanks in advance

Ian
Answer -
Hello Ian,

The U.S. version was released in 1956.

The Russian version, "Voyna I Mir" was originally released in three parts in consecutive years; 1965, 1966 and 1967.

I'm not totally certain of the original length, but it was somewhere in the region of a total seven and a half hours.

Glad to be of help. Cheers........Mel.

One final question, am i making this up or did Abel Gance make a silent version?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Answer
Hello again Ian,

No, Abel Gance did not make a version of "War And Peace". You may be thinking of his "Napoleon" which would have some similar scenes in places.

Previous to the two versions already mentioned, it was also made under the title "Voyna I Mir" in Russia in 1915.

Cheers.......Mel
