Hi. this is a tough one.
When I was a kid I saw an old film about some toys that were alive.
They tried throughout the film to find Santa before they turned back
into ordinary toys once more.
At the end they didn't find him in time and santa picked them up from a
set of stairs.
been bugging me for years...any idea what it may have been?

Could it possibly have been "Quincy's Quest" from 1979, which starred Tommy Steele as Quincy.

In the film it's the night before Christmas, and all toy store rejects are due to be tossed into the furnace. This includes Quincy, a most lifelike doll. In a last ditch effort to save himself and his "unwanted" chums from incineration, Quincy goes on a long and perilous journey in search of the only one who can save them: Santa Claus.

Does that sound like it?
