Question
Hi, years ago I saw a movie on tv with my mom, and i  would love to see it again.  it was black and white as well as i remember and the whole story was about a maid who was working hard and saving her money so that she could by a christian dior gown.  it might have been set in london or paris.  that's all i can remember but if you have any idea of the name of the film, that would be great -

Answer
Thank you for asking such an interesting question about silent films. If you could remember any actor or actress that was in the one you recall it would greatly help to pinpoint the title.

There is one movie starring George O'Brien and Olive Thomas that is called FIG LEAVES, and has a story line that sounds like what you have described. FIG LEAVES is a Fox film that was made in the late 1920s toward the end of the silent era, and it is available on DVD and VHS. I have seen it recently. You can find more about it by going to the Internet Movie Data Base at www.imdb.com.

Type that film name in the SEARCH field, and details will come up that will tell you more about the plot.

If you can recall the name of any actor in the film you recall, you can also do a SEARCH on their name and their entire filmography will come up on the same Internet Movie Data Base site.

Feel free to contact me by direct e-mail if you wish. I'm happy to share any information I have with you.

Sincerely,
David Menefee
