Classic Film/old film

Question
Last year i was on holiday in gran caneria and i wa watching tcm and there was this film on (in english) and i only catched half of the film but my parents gave me a brief outline beacause i think they had seen it before.

From what i can make out its about a white woman and a coloured woman who are both poor, they both have a baby girl around the same time. the coloured womans child is an halfcast and she hates being it and wants to be white, the white woman becomes rich and the coloured woman becomes her maid but they are the best of friends. I think the coloured womans daughter is called rebecca and she runs away and hates her mother and she becomes a dancer i think, the white womans daughter i think was called susie but im not exactly sure and she falls in love with her mothers fiance who i think was called steve (not sure again though). At the end of the film the coloured woman dies who i think was called Annie and the last scene is her funeral and her daughter comes back and cries and feels guilty because of the way she treated her mother.

I dont really cry at films but this one made me blubber, and i would like to watch it all way through but we cant for life of us find the film or find out what the name of the film was called.
If you could please help i would be very very grateful.
Thankyou
K.Archer

Answer
Hey K Archer :]

I am pretty sure that the film you speak of is :

Imitation of Life : 1959  or Imitation of Life : 1934

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0052918/   <<<< IMDB link

Check it out and see if it is one of these.

The fifties film was a remake of a 30s film so check that one out as well :

Good Luck

Peace Out
