The movie is set in an old mansion-like house. The housekeeper is very mysterious with dark hair. When she lights either incense or a candle in a room, a taxidermied ape comes alive and kills visitors to the house.There is also a door panel that revolves in a room like a library. I saw this movie on TV when I was young; I think it was made in the late 30's or 40's. I don't remember any of the actors or even the title; I would love to watch it again. I remember being very frightened when I saw it in the late 50's or early 60's.

I think you may be referring to a film from 1934 called "House Of Mystery". It certainly had all the bits that you remember. As the plot outline at the time said, "An ancient curse and a killer ape are contained inside an old dark mansion".
