i remember this old scary movie i watched when i was a kid but i can't remember the name of it. i know the main character was a young boy and there was a huge hole in his backyard that led to hell or somewhere and one scene of the movie shows an eye in the palm of his hand which he stabs with a piece of glass. do you have any clue what the name of this movie is?

You don't actually say when you were a kid, so I hope I have the right time period, but that sounds very much like the 1987 film "The Gate".

Story Outline: A boy Glen (Stephen Dorff), his sister Al (Christa Denton) and his best fried Terry (Louis Tripp) accidentally open a gate to hell, releasing a horde of demons, when a rotten tree is removed from the backyard of Glen's house.  What follows is a classic battle between good and evil as the kids struggle to overcome a nightmarish hell that is literally taking over the Earth."
