Subject: question about jazz artist

Question
Hi. I'm not sure if you can answer this or not, but I have a question about jazz artist George Benson. Did he originally record the song 'On Broadway', or was it a cover? Thanks

Answer
Danielle,
Actually this is a cover of a song originally released by the Drifters in 1963.  The song was written by the songwriting team of Lieber and Stoller.  They wrote other hits like Hound Dog and Stand By Me. The Drifters version made it to #9 on the US charts, but George Benson's 1978 version made it to #7.
