ANSWER:   I got nothing.  I thought about this for a while before responding.
I can't think of a song this might be.  Perhaps if you could give me some more info,  like what kinds of instruments,  low voice, high voice?
Electric guitars?  Acoustic guitars?   Organ?
 Slow song, fast song?

Anything you can think of might cause the bell in my head to ring.

QUESTION: this  song  ive  been  thinking  more  abou  it  the  song  came  out  in  the  late  60s  or  early  70s   i  think  the  song  sounds  like  arlo  guthry  or  like  the  kinks  style  the  song the  song  starts  like  a  piano  and  the  guy  starts  singing   I  WAS  DRIVING  HOME  AND  CANT  TURN  BACK   OH  WHY   OH  WHY  LATE  AT  NIGHT  SHE  WENT  TO  SLEEP   I  WENT  BACK  HOME  OH  WHY  OH  WHY.  the  song  has  a  bob  dylan  or  sort  of  like  the  kinks  vocal  sound  to  it  like  the  artist  is  from  the  south. is  there  any  other  rock  groups  that  sound  like  the  kinks?  DOES  ANYONE  KNOW   THE  ARTIST  OF  THE  SONG??

Answer
That sounds like something Gilbert O'Sullivan would have done,  but I know of no particular song with any of those lyrics and have searched quite a bit without much luck.  There are a lot of possibilities,  when rock was happening a lot of the vocalists had a similar sound to what you describe because of the equipment available.  If anything comes to mind I will let you know.
If you find out what it is , I am curious and would like to know too, please let me know if you find out.

I can answer general questions about rock era bands, record labels they were on, and names of songs. Often I can tell the name of the record company that released a song, as well as the name of the song, and the year of release based on some of the lyrics. I grew up during the rock era and I am a musician myself, and always read the album and 45 info for production credits as well as lineups. One of the chat rooms I go to is quite amused at my ability to name a song along with it`s year of release and record label. I was also a record collector for years.
