Classic Rock/80s Hit

Question
i have the lyrics and the actual song but none of us can figure out who sings this version.  Naked Eyes sings the same lyrics but it's not the hit from the 80s.  i think the title is Promises Promises and several folks have guessed Spandau Ballet, Thompson Twins, Cutting Crew, but i can't verify that it's any of them.  thx for your help and good luck.
here are the lyrics:

Never had a doubt in the beginning
Never a doubt
Trusted you true in the beginning
I loved you right through

On and on we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did

You made me promises, promises
Knowing I'd believe
Promises, promises
You knew you'd never keep

Second time around, I'm still believing
The words that you said
You said you'd always be here
And love forever still repeats in my head

You can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart

You made me promises, promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises, promises
Why do I believe?

On and on we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
But you can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart

You made me promises, promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises, promises
Why do I believe
All of your promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises, promises
Why do I believe?

Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises

Answer
I know mostly rock era music,   and this song is a bit after rock happened so it is a bit out of my arena of knowledge.   I have never heard it,  but I did a little research and found there is something called "Naked Eyes"  that this song is from.  I don't know if that is the name of a duo, or a pop group, or a movie or what,  but apparently whatever it is is where the song is from.
From what I can find the name of it is Promises, Promises.
 I hope this helps.

I can answer general questions about rock era bands, record labels they were on, and names of songs. Often I can tell the name of the record company that released a song, as well as the name of the song, and the year of release based on some of the lyrics. I grew up during the rock era and I am a musician myself, and always read the album and 45 info for production credits as well as lineups. One of the chat rooms I go to is quite amused at my ability to name a song along with it`s year of release and record label. I was also a record collector for years.
