Question
I am looking for information, actual song title, writers, artists for the song "Make Me A Star"or "To Be A Star". I thought it was by a local Detroit band "Toby Redd",but I could not find any info on it.

Answer
When rock died I pretty much turned the radio off, so I don't know a lot about music past 1980.
I cannot find lyrics for this group,  but did find a little information.
Apparently they had two albums, one in 1983 and another in 1986.
 One is:
Toby Redd A to Z  Which included the songs:

A1. Can't Get A Job
A2. Double Timed
A3. More Time
A4. Make it Up to You
A5. Harry's Alright
B1. It Ain't Me Babe
B2. She Won't get Far
B3. City
B4. Why Can't I
B5. Melea

The other is called "In The Light"
I couldn't find a song list for that album.

I couldn't begin to tell you how to go about finding lyrics for their songs, it doesn't appear there are any online.  Which means they are  likely very obscure and weren't very well known.
Some day someone will likely make a web page dedicated to them that has their lyrics,  but I couldn't find anything.
I wish I could help you more,  I hope the above information gives you other avenues to research.

I can answer general questions about rock era bands, record labels they were on, and names of songs. Often I can tell the name of the record company that released a song, as well as the name of the song, and the year of release based on some of the lyrics. I grew up during the rock era and I am a musician myself, and always read the album and 45 info for production credits as well as lineups. One of the chat rooms I go to is quite amused at my ability to name a song along with it`s year of release and record label. I was also a record collector for years.
