Classic Rock/Looking for the name of a Song

Question
A song was released by the name of Brandy (or Brandi).  It is about a dog, and I think the Temptations or another R&B group released it.  What is the name of the song and who released it?  Thank you.

Answer
Do the lyrics go somewhat like this?:

Don'tcha hear 'em say
Brandy/you're a fine girl
(such a fine girl)
what a good wife/you would be
(such a fine girl)

That was a song by the artist B.J. McCoy and it was released in the very early '70s.

This may not answer your question, though.

Expertise

I can answer quite a few questions on early US R & B, as well as psychedelic folk and rock and late '60s hard R & B and (what would become known as "heavy metal"). I can answer most questions about band line-ups and band record labels from the 1970s. From 1981 to 1990, I was heavily involved in the alternative radio and punk rock scenes and can identify bands with cities (called "scenes") and record labels.

Experience

My brother was an avid album-oriented rock fan in the mid to late '70s and early '80s, and I idolized him and his vast 8-track collection of bands like Sweet, Boston, Styx, Queen, Foghat, and Nazareth.
Later, I got into punk rock, especially hardcore, and worked at a college radio station doing punk rock and psychedelic radio shows from 1984-1989.
