Classic Rock - Rock Version of Bach's Toccata & Fugue

Expert: Mike Caldwell - 9/24/2009

Question
Mike,
During the early to mid seventies I performed a school play which had a sort of Rock / Disco / Funk version of Bach's Toccata & Fugue that was really awesome. A friend of the time said that it was by a band called Parliament and the song or album called Dr Funkenstein. I even bought Parliament's greatest hits album, but I could not find this tune. I've been searching for this since the 80's but had no luck...can you help?

Thanks
Hector

Answer
I think you might have been misled - Emerson Lake & Palmer did a rocked-out version of this in the 70s, and that might be the version you're seeking.  Here's an example of their rendition of the piece, from a live performance in 1974.  See if this helps!

Take care!
