Classic Rock/My list of extended version songs
Expert: Mike Caldwell - 3/5/2010
QuestionQUESTION: Dear Mike
I΄m a cuban classic rock fan.
As you surely know, there are many rock songs which have a short and a long version. Usually, the former is more commercial at the radio and in charts, and the last one is enjoyed much more.
Accidentally, I have got some of them, but Im sure there are many others, and Id like to know at least the most important long or extended versions (not live versions) of the sixties and seventies. I know that such specific list doesnt exist, but I think it would be, for many rock fans, as interesting as any
other one, like One Hit Wonder, The Most Played Songs, etc.
If I would send you the list of those long versions I
have, could you help me so that I add others?
Regards
Hiram.
ANSWER: Sure, you can follow up your post with your list and I can see if there are any others I can suggest. For example, there are songs by The Doors, Yes, and Led Zeppelin that were important pieces in rock but never made the radio because of their length.

AnswerHi Hiram
Good list you had there!
Here are some that come to mind - these received steady airplay on the radio, despite their length.
Whole Lotta Love (Led Zeppelin)
Kashmir (Led Zeppelin)
Light My Fire (Doors)
Stairway To Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
Freebird (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Hey Jude (Beatles)
Finding My Way (Rush)
My Woman From Tokyo (Deep Purple)
Black Water (Doobie Brothers)
and of course
Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
