Classic Rock/Song and Band Title-from the HEAVY era.
Expert: Mike Caldwell - 5/22/2011
QuestionHello Mike and Co.; If you can answer this, My sanity will be less in question. I KNOW there was a short lived band, I believe in the early 70s, made up of at least one member of Iron Butterfly, Lee Dorman on Bass and possibly Ron Bushy on drums. I think the band in question existed before Captain Beyond which also had members of Iron Butterfly. The quote from the only song that hit the radio was the _chorus_ "Bash Your Head Against the Wall". That may have been the name of the song and the band also; I don't know. The tune was hard driven and quintessential “Heavy” from that era when “Heavy” was used like “Awesome”. I have never found anyone who remembers or could acknowledge the song or the bands’ existence; no Web search for the same has succeeded either. It would truly "rock” if you could verify and validate this memory.
Thanks:
Kevin
AnswerHi Kevin
Wow, now I'm starting to question my own sanity! I never knew Lee Dorman with any bands other than Iron Butterfly and Captain Beyond (as well as producing Black Oak Arkansas). That's not to say that such a short-lived band ever existed; for example, Jimmy Page participated in a very temporary "band" called XYZ, but that act doesn't generally show up in his bio.
I even did some pretty deep searches about that "bash your head" lyric, and nothing came up of relevance - not even close. Frustrating!
This might call for taking the question to a higher authority; perhaps an Iron Butterfly "serious" fan site, or if possible, even Dorman himself.
That said, I'll keep looking around, and if anything comes to the surface, I'll post a follow-up.
