Classic Rock/"As the moon rises" Hippie song...

Question
Hi,

I have this song in my head that I have heard many times before and most recently was used as background music over images of 60's woodstock type hippie girls dancing (I believe it was a documentary about such times). I also think it is quite a famous song but I can't track it down :-(

All I can remember is the lyrics "As the moon rises....." (That is the entire line rather than me not remembering the rest of the sentence). Also "As" could in fact be "When" or "And". This is almost certainly part of the chorus of a slowish tempo song with the words "moon" and "rises" elongated for several beats.  It is sung by a man probably with harmonization.

All my lyric googling has failed I'm afraid (it is not "Bad moon rising", "Moon river" or "Moondance" for example).  Would dearly love and appreciate some help as I'd love to play it for my girlfriend :-)

Answer
Hey Howard - how's it goin'?

The song itself does not ring any bells (I'm sure it's one of those type that as soon as I hear it I would smack my forehead and say ... "Of course!").

Using all the lead words you gave me (and a few more that I threw in), all my bots could find was one song - and I doubt it is the one you're looking for:

Having grown up during the 70`s, I have a great appreciation for what I consider to be the best music ever recorded. My favourite group from that era is The Eagles and I believe that the summer of 1976 was the best summer for music releases! Ask me anything about any top 40 group from the mid 70`s to the mid 80`s and I am to say with most certainty, that I will be able to provide you with an answer!
