Classic Rock/song on the radio

Question
I can't pin down the name of this one song I heard on the radio yesterday....at one point it goes straight into a downward spiral early synthesizer sound into a fast tempo low melodic beat sounding almost like an old atari game(in 16th notes I believe), then the drummer joins in with the beat for a long sequence of drumming (especially using the toms) after this occurs for a while it eventually breaks out into a very familiar guitar melody with the strength and tone of ACDC (but I know it isn't them), I guess what would give this away the most is the extremely long excerpt of drum and synthesizer only, it fairly long....any ideas of what it might be

Answer
Wow,  I am going to take a couple of stabs at this.  One guess is that you might be talking about Space Invaders, which is a song by a pop band called the Pretenders that came out about the time rock was declining.
My second guess is that it might be a song by Head East.

Space Invaders is entirely an instrumental.
Does the song you are talking about have lyrics?
If so do you remember any of the lyrics?
And, what other instruments are in the song?

I can answer general questions about rock era bands, record labels they were on, and names of songs. Often I can tell the name of the record company that released a song, as well as the name of the song, and the year of release based on some of the lyrics. I grew up during the rock era and I am a musician myself, and always read the album and 45 info for production credits as well as lineups. One of the chat rooms I go to is quite amused at my ability to name a song along with it`s year of release and record label. I was also a record collector for years.
