Classical Music/Haydn Music in Flags of Our Fathers

QuestionHello I read one of your answers earlier on:
"The Haydn music is, of course, not Opus 6. It is Opus 1. In those days, a composer would write a set of complete works and publish them under a single opus number. Haydn's Opus 1 is a set of six string quartets. The sixth string quartet is, therefore, Opus 1, #6. I can see how they got it wrong: String Quartet #6 in C major, Opus 1, #6. Just the thing that would get past a proofreader who didn't know anything about classical music"
but Op.1 No.6 Mov. II is a Menuetto and it is not the music that is heard in the movie, I've also checked the other movements and none of them are that piece either..Is the title of the song on the OST just completely wrong or am I just outrageously mistaken? I tried to find the music score but can't find it anywhere so I wonder if you can help thanks!
AnswerHi,
I remember this question -- but it is a long time ago! I checked again -- I found a website with a soundtrack that would play audio samples
http://www.soundtrack.net/albums/database/?id=4245
On this website, track 8 is listed as Mozart, Symphony in g minor. That track 8 is really Haydn's Opus 1, no. 6, movement II (Menuetto). The string quartet is also given a Hoboken number (that is something named for Haydn's cataloger): Hob.III:6
They list track 9 as String Quartet, Opus 6, second movement. That track 8 is really the Menuetto from Mozart's Symphony in g minor (no. 40), movement III. That symphony is listed also as K. 550 (K for Koechel, named for Mozart's cataloger).
What is further confusing is that the Mozart Symphony is arranged here for string quartet.
I hope this straightens everything out.
