Classical Music/Remo Giazotto

Question
Hi,

I am just beginning to delve into classical music, and I recently heard Remo Giazotto's Adagio, based on the music of Albinoni. I was blown away by it and cannot stop listening to it.
Has he made any other music? I've looked online and couldn't find any. If not, is there anything you could recommend that's close? I've bought some of Albinoni's work and it's nothing like it (I can't believe that people thought that Albinoni actually wrote Adagio--it's much too modern sounding.)
  Thanks.

Answer
Albinoni wrote some wonderful stuff, as you already know!  (I don't don't know Giazotto at all, tho.  Guess you've googled....)

As to a similar piece, I know you'll love Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings."

There's also a Tchaikovsky piece for string orchestra called "Serenade for Strings."

For other things that are great "starter pieces," look at Dvorak's "Hungarian Dances."  Brahms wrote a number of Hungarian dances, too.

Anything by Mozart is grand; especially look at his divertimenti ("serenades") for woodwinds and any of his symphonies.

Rossini's opera overtures are marvelous, too.  Esp look for "Thieving Magpie" and "Bartered Bride."  There are many recordings that have a number of these per disk.

You'll like Sarasate's variations on themes from "Carmen."  And another called "Gypsy Airs."  (both violin)

And, of course, Beethoven's 5th symphony.  And the last movement to the 9th ("Ode to Joy").

And Bach's "Toccata [and Fugue] in D Minor." (organ)

You are so going to love classical music!  Best wishes. mb

My answers are not toss-offs. If I don't know the answer, I will do my best to find it.

I have many requests to identify a piece of music. If I can't identify it, I will tell you (1) what composer I think it is; (2) what composer or composers I think it is not; (3) what style period, genre, etc. I think it is or is not. And give you any other help I can to help you find the answer.

Please find a clear clip. In the interest of good computer hygiene, I will not download a clip. Nor will I go to a site where I must "register" in order to hear the clip. Please mount the clip on a public site for which you can give me a direct URL. Thanks for your understanding in this. Remember, I'm a volunteer!

Students, I do NOT do homework questions. The purpose of answering questions on assignments is not only to learn the information, but to LEARN HOW TO FIND IT. Re-read chapter. Look in the index. Look in the references given at the end of the chapter or elsewhere in the book. You also probably can find the answer using Google. Don't be lazy. I wouldn't be doing you any favors by doing your homework for you! I already know the answer. You don't. You need to find it. MORE IMPORTANTLY, you need to learn HOW to find it. That's the whole purpose of education, after all!
