Question
Hi

There is a piece of music that I need to know it's name to purchase it and it is fairly urgent for a gift in a few hours time.

I cannot name the composer, but they are famous
The piece starts off as a concerto fairly ordinary, then it Starts to "Almost repeat the same segment" but now it is up almost half an octave, each repeat jumps up half an octave and it does it several times  smoothly like a spiral of music that increases until it is reaches the highest octave a Violin can play at and then it stops and pauses quiet for a few seconds and then starts the finishing piece at a much lower octave.

That is as much as I can tell you. it is famous I know that I am sorry I cannot give you any more clues, oh, iyt lasts about 8 minutes.

Answer
Hi Andrew,

Without a recording of the piece, it is almost impossible to identify the piece that you wish to purchase. If I were to hazard an educated guess, I would suggest that you listen to "Canon in D Major" by Johann Pachelbel. If it isn't that piece, it could be any piece by a composer from that time period (Baroque) or the one immediately following it (Classical). I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, and it is a very kind gesture for you to offer great music to a friend.

Best Regards,

Donald

PS - Can you possibly send me a link to the piece so I can give it a better shot?
