Question
Hi Gary, I have had a melody from my head from years back,
and have been trying to find out what piece it's from.

Here is the melody & chords and hope you are able to help.

Thanks,

Jeff, Delray Beach FL

e (dotted half note) g, g (eighth notes), repeat that.
(Accompaniment C Major)

then g (quarter note), down to b (dotted quarter note) up to a, g,  f (eigth notes)
(Accompaniment G Major)

e, d (eighth notes) c (dotted half) c, c (eigths)
(Accompaniment C Major)

f (dotted quarter) e (eigth) d (quarter),  d (quarter)
(Accompaniment  F Major)

g (dotted quarter)  f (eigth)  e  (quarter), c (quarter)
(Accompaniment C Major)

up to a (dotted quarter) g (eigth) f, g, a, b (eighth notes)
(Accompaniment G Major)

c (whole note)
(Accompaniment C Major)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Jeff

Answer
Well, I put it in my MIDI sequencer and played it and, while perhaps it sounded
vaguely familiar, it isn't anything I own.

Then I looked up the sequence of notes EGG EGG GBAGF in my
Dictionary of Musical Themes, which has a section correlating
note sequences (without regard to note length, octave, or grace notes)
and got a possible hit on a theme from Suppe's Poet and Peasant
Overture, but the quoted theme in another part of the book didn't
match the note sequence, so I guess that's as far as I can get.

BTW, assuming this is 4/4, as all the measures seem to be,

e, d (eighth notes) c (dotted half) c, c (eigths) is five beats.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Regards,
Gary
