Classical Music/Songs to consider for college music supplement

Question
I'm turning in a music supplement for my college application. I haven't marked down that I'll be trying for a music major, but I do intend to sing once I get into college. I have two songs in mind, and I'm not sure what to pick for a third (or maybe even more).

I sing mainly second soprano, but I have a wide range, and can manage an alto part very well, and a first soprano with some success. I've already picked That Yonge Child (from a recent concert) and Danny Boy as two songs to sing, but I'm looking for a third, preferably in another language, and maybe shows off a vocal range or flexibility. Something that I can do a good job of with only a few weeks (and no vocal teacher) to learn would be superb.

Answer
Hi Emily!

Good luck with your application and with your collegiate career! I'm thrilled that you will be singing in college. May it bring you the joy that it brought me!

"O mio babbino caro" by Puccini is a great audition piece. It isn't too long, and the Italian is not difficult. Without hearing your voice, it is hard to make specific recommendations.

Give it a listen on YouTube and see what you think. If that doesn't sound good to you, then send me another message and I'll try to give further suggestions.

Good luck!
