Question
Hey
For YEARS I've been trying to identify the following melody:
I posted it on YOUTUBE

I don't think it qualifies as "Classical" (maybe "neo-classical") but you might have heard it, or know someone who did.

Thanks
Errol

Answer
Hi Errol,

I can tell that you have good "ears" from your question! You are absolutely correct in assuming that the tune is not classical in nature. In my opinion, it is a contemporary setting of a rather simple melody. This sort of a piece is often written as music for film or stage. In my mind, it qualifies as "incidental music"; i.e., it is meant to provide a certain mood for a dramatic presentation. The harmonies reflect a pop/jazz influence and the melody is contemporary, with chromaticism (close movement of a 1/2 step) and skips that outline the harmonies.

I know that this isn't much to go on, but I don't recognize the piece. Therefore, all I can do is focus on the elements and try to help you to the next step on your journey.

Please feel free to contact me in the future if I can help you in any way.

Best regards,

Donald
