Question
QUESTION: I am musical direector for a local theatre company and we are staging the play
Amadeus.  I have the music cuts that were used 30 years ago on reel to reel and
am updating the score.  I cannot identify the music used for the curtain call and
would like to reference it in the program.  I can send a captured mp3 of the
music if you think you could identify it or perhaps you can suggest where I could
help.
ANSWER: http://www.amadeusimmortal.com/movie/musicguide.php

this will give you the info you want, I believe; if not, write back! mb

QUESTION: Sorry, I should have clarified.  The play is RADICALLY different from the movie
and the director in this case chose his own music for the curtain call.  Again I
have an mp3 of a piece taken from a reel to reel version of the play 30 years ago
either by Mozart or Salieri, not used in the film which I cannot identify.  Any
ideas?
ANSWER: I'll give it a listen.  Where is the clip?  mb

QUESTION: I could not see any way on the allexperts website to attach a clip to me email so
I have posted it to this website: http://www3.sympatico.ca/james.pinhorn/
Thanks for your help with this.

Answer
I do not know this piece, nor do I think I have ever heard it before.

Well, it's in D Major (I'm pretty sure!). Orchestral, no soloist.  Perhaps Sym #35 (or #11)?

The first couple of measures sound very much like a divertimento to me, however.

Could also be an "overture" to one of his vocal pieces.  But it's a tad too "jolly."

You might also look at some of his vocal pieces; probably not a mass, now that I think of it.  Orchestration too thin.

Might be some "set piece" out of an opera.

Gee, that's about as well as I can do!

Have you taken this clip to a conductor or two?  Someone who's familiar with a wide variety of symphonic lit.

If (when!) you find this, please let me know what it is!

>>*****IMPORTANT NOTE*****<<: I do not answer questions marked "private." I don't want to type the same thing to someone else later if I typed it to you already! If you mark your request "private," I will send it back to you requesting you to remove the "private" flag. Thanks for your understanding. Remember, I'm a volunteer.

My answers are not toss-offs. If I don't know the answer, I will do my best to find it.

I have many requests to identify a piece of music. If I can't identify it, I will tell you (1) what composer I think it is; (2) what composer or composers I think it is not; (3) what style period, genre, etc. I think it is or is not. And give you any other help I can to help you find the answer.

Please find a clear clip. In the interest of good computer hygiene, I will not download a clip. Nor will I go to a site where I must "register" in order to hear the clip. Please mount the clip on a public site for which you can give me a direct URL. Thanks for your understanding in this. Remember, I'm a volunteer!

Students, I do NOT do homework questions. The purpose of answering questions on assignments is not only to learn the information, but to LEARN HOW TO FIND IT. Re-read chapter. Look in the index. Look in the references given at the end of the chapter or elsewhere in the book. You also probably can find the answer using Google. Don't be lazy. I wouldn't be doing you any favors by doing your homework for you! I already know the answer. You don't. You need to find it. MORE IMPORTANTLY, you need to learn HOW to find it. That's the whole purpose of education, after all!
