Answer -
I'd rather not have email, so please upload mp3 here!

Answer -
This I don't know!  Sorry.  Check the general FAQ. When it's there, give me a yell and I'll take a listen. mb

Answer -
Did you ever get the clip uploaded? mb

Answer
Darn those clips that have noises and spoken word going on over them, thus blocking clear hearing of music we really want to know about!

From the use (all that yelling and artillery), I'm betting on some sort of large-scale religious piece having to do with death, such as a requiem mass (if so, this isn't Mozart, Berlioz, Bruckner, or Faure; don't think it's Poulenc or Reubke, either).

It also could be from the ordinary of the mass (the text of the mass that is celebrated in the Catholic church for "normal" uses - - as opposed to a requiem mass).

I think I make out the words "in nomine [= in the name], which leads me to think it's a Benedictus {Benediction].  Normally, however, a benedictus is soft and slow; a closing section of the mass [in nomini Domini = in the name of God].

It also could be the Sanctus (Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis. = Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts! Heaven and earth are filled with Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest!  Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest!), which happens to be followed by the Benedictus.

It's definitely not Haydn's "Mass in Time of War," nor is it any mass (or missa brevis - - this is just the Kyrie and Gloria of the mass) by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, etc.  Nothing from Baroque (and certainly not Renaissance) or Classical period.

Give a listen to Janacek's Glagolitic Mass (I love that its text is written in Old Church Slavonic!  I knew a guy who spoke 32 languages, and this was one of them!).

On the other hand it might not be religious at all.  Could be something like Prokofiev's "Alexander Nevsky" cantata...tho the rhythm of the clip doesn't sound like Prokofiev.

It's not Orff's "Carmina Burana."  I'm sure of that.  Nor is it Stravinsky, Schoenberg/etc., Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Reich/Glass/etc., Copland, Bartok.  Don't think it is Stockhausen or Pederecki, and certainly not John Cage, Debussy, Ravel, or Mahler!

Sorry I can't give you an exact identification.  If I could make out the text more clearly, perhaps I could be more specific.  That said, I hope that this will give you some paths to explore.  mb

>>*****IMPORTANT NOTE*****<<: I do not answer questions marked "private." I don't want to type the same thing to someone else later if I typed it to you already! If you mark your request "private," I will send it back to you requesting you to remove the "private" flag. Thanks for your understanding. Remember, I'm a volunteer.

My answers are not toss-offs. If I don't know the answer, I will do my best to find it.

I have many requests to identify a piece of music. If I can't identify it, I will tell you (1) what composer I think it is; (2) what composer or composers I think it is not; (3) what style period, genre, etc. I think it is or is not. And give you any other help I can to help you find the answer.

Please find a clear clip. In the interest of good computer hygiene, I will not download a clip. Nor will I go to a site where I must "register" in order to hear the clip. Please mount the clip on a public site for which you can give me a direct URL. Thanks for your understanding in this. Remember, I'm a volunteer!

Students, I do NOT do homework questions. The purpose of answering questions on assignments is not only to learn the information, but to LEARN HOW TO FIND IT. Re-read chapter. Look in the index. Look in the references given at the end of the chapter or elsewhere in the book. You also probably can find the answer using Google. Don't be lazy. I wouldn't be doing you any favors by doing your homework for you! I already know the answer. You don't. You need to find it. MORE IMPORTANTLY, you need to learn HOW to find it. That's the whole purpose of education, after all!
