Classical Music/trying to identify piece

Question
Hi David - after a whole day of clicking my way through 30-second previews
in the iTunes store, I'm ready to admit defeat. I have two snippets from the
composition in question here:

http://homepage.mac.com/rflicker/files/snippet1.mp3
http://homepage.mac.com/rflicker/files/snippet2.mp3

Based on the first, I thought maybe something like Glazunov or Fauré,
though the second sounds more like "Carmen," or at any rate something with
an oriental influence. I'd be really grateful for any help you can offer on this!

cheers

Answer
HI,
I was out of town (just got back), so sorry for the delay.

The piece you are looking for is by Borodin, and the work's title is Polovtsian Dances.

You were close with Glazunov in terms of time and country, and in terms of time with all the choices.

Best,
