Question Hi.
I've also been pouring through all the questions and have found a lot of wonderful information (thank you so much for this service). I guess my only concern/question left is: Can I expect to earn a descent living with an ND degree (traditional naturopath)???? I know "descent" means different things in different states. I am really doing this for the LOVE of helping people, but let's face it..you can't help people if you can't pay your bills! Also, has any advancement, that you know of, been made to legitimize the traditional naturopath in any way?
Thanks.
Answer Sorry it took me awhile to answer your questio, I am traveling the country and have not had access to email or the internet in over a week. Your question is a difficult one in several ways. Can you make a living as a traditional naturpath, aboslutely!! That being said, there are many things that can make a naturopath succesful or not successful, location, knowledge, advertisin, it is also very important to have some money to invest in the business and to live off of until your practice gets up and going.
You can be successful but that doesn't mean it is neessarily easy. It also depends on your knowledge and ability to provide a wide range of services to potential clients. A business takes timet o buiklkd, it also takes some investment for rent for your building ,suppplies, advertising etc...
I'm sure there are some excellent books on starting a health based pratice that you could read. You may want to do a google searchto see if you can find some more infmation or books to help you I know many, many successful naturopaths, they each do different things. It may also be a good idea to offer free lectures at the lcal health food store or other locations to get clients.
As far as licensing and legalizing traditional naturopaths I don't believe it will ever happen. The physicians who call themselves naaturopaths won't have it, they are trying to set up a moonpoy for themselves and they are succeeding. The governemtn and medical community have strong ties, the government listenns to the so caled experts and they don't believe anyone without a medical deree has any legitimacy whatsoever. You can still practice legal, the boo, Legal guidlines for unlicense pratitioners by Larry Wilson is an excllent book for traditional naturopaths. Good Luck.
