Question
Hello Kay,

Thank you for sharing your expertise. I am interested in learning about how people obtain teaching positions at schools like KCNH, GCNM, University of Natural Medicine, and the like. Is this something where you look out for job postings, do you pitch yourself to the schools, or do they contact you?

Also, how did you get on the advisory board of your local college?

I am just trying to learn more so I can decide how I want to proceed.

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Jennifer-as I mentioned in my book, at this point, you have to make your own opportunities. There is no place I know of that has job postings for schools like KCNH, GCMN and UNM. I have seen postings for schools like Kaplan, though. You basically have to call them up and pitch yourself.
I got on the advisory board at my local college as I knew they were putting together a holistic health studies program. So, I called the appropriate person and set up an interview. They wanted to hire me as a teacher, but were hit with budget cuts (I live in CA). Being on the advisory board doesn't pay, but it affords me public exposure as I do lecturing when they have events. But remember, CAM is a hot subject with a lot of schools right now, even in traditional colleges, and there are very few out there who are knowledgeable enough to teach it. Be bold and ask for an interview. You never know where it can lead. As an example, I had a upcoming online natural health school contact me and offer me a directorship position for the school. I declined it as it's not what I want to do right now. I did however, find them someone who was qualified, a CCNH/KCNH graduate.
Here's an idea: Why don't you teach your own classes on natural health? People are very interested in the subject and there are all sorts of things you could do. Find a location that can accommodate 6-8 people, have it last 6 weeks or so and charge an amount that's not too expensive, but is worth your time. Pick a book and have prospective students order it on Amazon. This will give you experience and will get your name out.
The field of natural health is wide open. Be creative and maybe you'll find your niche.
