Question
Kay,
I have a question similar to the one asked by the writer from Ohio. I have a PhD from Clayton College in Natural Health. What states restrict me from using PhD after my name? I live in CO but want to know which states do restrict this degree from Clayton College from being used.

Answer
The issue is not whether you use the PhD designation after your name, the issue is the legality of advertising yourself with a degree from a school not accredited by the USDE. There are two states I know of right now where doing so is a misdemeanor and they are TX and OR. But it has NEVER held up in court of law. There were charges brought up against two men in OR who had such a degree from a school in WY in 2004. The charges were dropped, but the judge did stipulate that they disclose the school they graduated from was non-USDE accredited.
